 EL QAR'A FIELD BEGINS PRODUCTION
 HOUSTON, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Marathon Oil Company (NYSE: MRO)


has announced that the El Qar'a Gas Field commenced gas sales on May 9.
 The field's initial sales rate of 112 million cubic feet of gas and 3,200 barrels of liquid hydrocarbons per day will increase to a contract quantity of 150 million cubic feet of gas yielding approximately 4,000 barrels of liquid hydrocarbons per day. The gas and liquid hydrocarbons are sold to Egyptian General Petroleum Company under a sales contract for the life of the field.
 The El Qar'a Field is located onshore in the northern Nile Delta approximately 100 miles north of Cairo, Egypt. The field includes a gas processing plant and eight wells.
 Marathon Petroleum Egypt Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Company, has a 25 percent working interest in the El Qar'a Field. IEOC/AGIP has a 50 percent working interest and serves as operator, and British Petroleum has a 25 percent working interest.
