EL PASO ELECTRIC ANNOUNCES ELECTION OF TWO NEW DIRECTORS
EL PASO, Texas, June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- David H. Wiggs Jr., chief

executive officer, president and chairman of the board of El Paso Electric Company (NASDAQ: ELPAQ), today announced the election of Wilson K. Cadman and George W. Edwards Jr., to the company's board of directors.
Wilson, whose board membership became effective June 8, was, until his retirement last month, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Kansas Gas & Electric Company of Wichita, Kan. Edwards, whose board membership became effective June 23, is president and chief executive officer of Kansas City Southern Railway Company of Kansas City, Mo. Edwards also has served as an executive officer and director of United Illuminating Company, an electric utility company. With the election of Cadman and Edwards, the number of members of the board of directors of El Paso Electric has been increased to nine.
Wiggs stated, "Wilson Cadman and George Edwards are both outstanding individuals who have held or currently hold senior management positions with major companies in their region. Both have had extensive experience in the electric utility industry -including, in the case of Mr. Cadman, more than 40 years of experience with a major electric utility. The willingness of these two individuals to serve on El Paso Electric's board is a vote of confidence in the company's fundamental strength, future potential and ability to solve current problems. Moreover, the experience they possess will be most valuable to us as we continue our efforts to successfully complete El Paso Electric's financial restructuring."
El Paso Electric Company is an electric utility serving approximately 250,000 customers in El Paso, Texas, and an area of the Rio Grande Valley in West Texas and Southern New Mexico. The company currently owns or leases a 15.8 percent interest in each of the three 1,270-megawatt nuclear units at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station located near Phoenix, Ariz.
