EL AL ISRAEL AIRLINES SELECTS PRATT & WHITNEY'S PW4000 ENGINES
EAST HARTFORD, Conn., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- El Al Israel Airlines has selected PW4056 engines to power new Boeing 747-400 transports, introducing the popular PW4000 engine family to their fleet. The order, including options and spare engines, is worth about $136 million to Pratt & Whitney.
El Al has ordered two firm and two option 747s, with deliveries beginning in April 1994. Value of the eight firm, installed and two spare engines for the first two aircraft is $68 million. The 747s will be used on Tel Aviv to New York flights and on Far East routes.
"El Al has been a good customer for many years, flying 747s and 767s powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D engines," Pratt & Whitney Marketing Vice President Eric Schoenholz, said. "We are glad to be able to continue the fine relationship we enjoy with them."
The PW4000 is the engine of choice for today's wide-body aircraft, having won the majority of engine competitions since it entered service in 1987. To date, more than 2,900 PW4000s are on firm and option order with 60 customers worldwide.
Pratt & Whitney is a unit of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), based in Hartford.
