EK NAMED OMC VICE PRESIDENT

WAUKEGAN, Ill., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Outboard Marine Corp. (OMC) (NYSE: OM) today announced that William J. Ek has been elected a vice president of the corporation. He will retain the title of president of the OMC Aluminum Boat Group, and will continue to have responsibility for manufacturing and marketing of the company's Aluminum Boat Group brands, including Lowe, Sea Nymph, Grumman, Suncruiser, Roughneck and Princecraft. He will continue to report directly to Robert D. Randolph, OMC's executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Ek joined OMC in 1984 as product manager of OMC Drive Systems. In that position, he was responsible for the product development and successful launch of the OMC Croba stern drive line, which significantly enhanced OMC's competitive position in the stern drive market.
Ek was actively involved in developing OMC's strategy for entering the boat manufacturing business, as well as in the actual acquisitions of boat companies in 1986 and 1987. In latter year, he was named president of the company's Carl A. Lowe Industries subsidiary, the manufacturer of Lowe boats. He was named to his current position in 1991.
Prior to joining OMC, Ek had spent most of his career in the boat business. Earlier in his career, he held various sales and management positions at several boat manufacturing concerns.
Ek and his family reside in Lebanon, Mo.
