 EIGHT COLLINS & AIKMAN SPECIAL SCHOLARS NAMED
 CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Eight Collins & Aikman


special scholarships have been awarded to graduating high school students. Six of the students are from North Carolina.
 The scholars are chosen through the National Merit Scholarship Foundation, following criteria established by the company. The North Carolina recipients are:
 -- Toni R. Bridwell of Chase High School in Forest City. She is the daughter of Walt and Debbie Bridwell, both of whom work for C&A's Mastercraft Division.
 -- Robert I. Short of East Rutherfordton High, Forest City, whose mother Cheryl Short is in the Mastercraft Division's production control department.
 -- Jennifer L. Riley of Person Senior High, Roxboro, whose mother Janet Riley is a shift coordinator with the company's Cavel Division.
 -- Keri A. Sidorovic of East Rowan High School, Salisbury, whose mother Catherine R. Evangelista is Automotive Division plant receptionist.
 -- Connie J. Smith, Jordan-Matthews High School in Siler City, whose father Leon is in the Mastercraft warping department.
 -- Kristopher D. Vess of Marion's McDowell High School. His father David is production control manager at Collins & Aikman's Automotive Division plant at Old Fort.
 Brigid I. Krug of The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, N.Y. and Eric R. Ritchey of Green High School in Greensburg, Ohio are the other recipients. Krug's father, Albert Krug, is a sales representative with C&A's Specialty Fabrics Division. Ritchey's mother, Mary Ritchey, is a lead person at the company's Akro Division plant at Barberton, Ohio.
 The Collins & Aikman scholarships carry stipends ranging from $2,000 to $8,000 for four years of study leading to a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. They are available to children of C&A employees.
 Collins & Aikman is a major producer of specialty textiles and wallcoverings.
