EIA PRESIDENT ISSUES STATEMENT ON CLINTON'S HEALTH CARE REFORM PACKAGE

/ADVANCE/ WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by Peter F. McCloskey, president of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA):
President Clinton's Health Care Reform Package, announced tonight, is a bold step in making health care affordable and a reality for all Americans. The U.S. electronics industry believes it is making significant contributions toward achieving that goal by providing the medical community with the most advanced technological tools to prevent, diagnose and ultimately cure disease and eliminate human suffering.
The Electronic Industries Association (EIA) also believes that extraordinary cost savings can be achieved by examining new innovative technologies in products such as computers, telecommunications, networking, imaging and data storage capabilities which will allow instant access to medical records, x-rays, test results, specialist consultations, as well as easier, more accurate and less expensive billing procedures.
Our industry believes that by working closely with the administration, Congress and the health care industry, a complete effective health care initiative can be implemented that reduces bureaucracy and provides the finest health care available to all Americans.
For more than 69 years, the Electronic Industries Association has been the national trade organization representing the U.S. electronics manufacturers. Committed to the competitiveness of the American producer, EIA represents the entire spectrum of companies involved in the manufacture of electronic components, parts, systems and equipment for communications, industrial, government and consumer-end uses.
