EE Times Names WiQuest to Its 60 Emerging Startups List; Designation Earns Company Recognition for Ultrawideband Technology Leadership, Financial Strength.

ALLEN, Texas -- WiQuest Communications, Inc. a leading fabless semiconductor company developing complete Ultrawideband (UWB) solutions, has been named to The EE Times 60 Emerging Startups list in recognition of the company's compelling technology and financial strength. WiQuest is the only ultrawideband chip company named to the list.

In making the announcement, EE Times noted that startups on the Silicon 60 list include companies involved in semiconductor chips, memory, fab equipment, packaging, foundry, materials, MEMS and EDA software that made an impression on EE Times editors, adding that these are emerging companies to watch for a wide variety of reasons. Editors noted that companies were selected based on a mix of criteria including technology, intended market, maturity, financial position and investment profile.

"We are extremely pleased and gratified to be recognized by a publication of EE Times' stature," stated Dr. Matthew Shoemake, WiQuest founder, CEO and president. "We have worked hard to develop the team, the technology and the manufacturing infrastructure to position ourselves as the complete ultrawideband solution leader in the global marketplace, and today's announcement is further indication we are succeeding."

WiQuest recently announced the availability of its WQST110 and WQST101 chipset, the industry's first commercially-available, high-performance silicon delivering wireless communication at speeds of up to one gigabit-per-second. The WQST110 includes a WiMedia-based UWB media access controller (MAC), physical layer (PHY) baseband processor and integrated USB 2.0 high-speed transceiver, thereby making the solution cost-effective, compact and efficient. The WQST101 is a direct conversion UWB RF transceiver. WiQuest also announced the availability of its WQST100EVK Evaluation Kit and the wireless USB Adapter, 4-port Hub and mini PCI Express card reference designs, based on the Certified Wireless USB technology from the USB Implementers Forum. These reference designs offer the most complete UWB solutions on the market today.

The recent Series B funding was led by new investor Sequoia Capital - the principal venture investor behind well-known and respected companies such as Google, Cisco, Apple and Nvidia - and also included full participation by Series A investors, Menlo Ventures, Palomar Ventures and iD Ventures America.
