 EDWYNA G. ANDERSON NAMED CHAIR OF PENNSYLVANIA ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION
 HERSHEY, Pa., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Edwyna Goodwin Anderson, general counsel for Duquesne Light Co., is the new chairperson of the Pennsylvania Electric Association (PEA).
 Anderson is both the first woman and the first African-American to head PEA.
 The announcement of Anderson's election was made here this morning at the closing session of the 85th Annual Meeting of PEA, the trade association of the 11 investor-owned electric utilities in Pennsylvania. These utilities provide electricity to about 95 percent of the population of Pennsylvania.
 Also elected were William F. Hecht, president, Pennsylvania Power & Light Co., first vice chairman; James W. Durham, senior vice president and general counsel, Philadelphia Electric Co., second vice chairman; Walter A. Boquist, corporate secretary and staff counsel, Metropolitan Edison Co., third vice chairman; William A. Badger, president; Douglas L. Biden, secretary-treasurer; and Maureen S. Scarazzo, assistant secretary-treasurer. Chairmen and vice chairmen of the association are representatives of member companies who serve on the PEA Executive Committee and fill their offices on an annual basis. The president, secretary-treasurer and assistant secretary-treasurer are full-time staff positions of the association.
 The following persons were appointed by their respective companies to the Executive Committee, the governing body of the association: Gary R. Brandenberger, vice president-Power Supply, Duquesne Light Co.; Richard L. Bunn, president-Utilities Division, UGI Utilities, Inc.; Mark R. Dingman, vice president and general manager-Electric Utilities Division, UGI Utilities, Inc.; Fred D. Hafer, president, Metropolitan Edison Co.; Thomas K. Henderson, vice president, West Penn Power Co.; Harold W. Keiser, senior vice president-Nuclear, Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.; Robert L. Kensinger, president, Pennsylvania Power Co.; Jay S. Pifer, president, West Penn Power Co.; Willard R. Stinson, vice president and comptroller, Pennsylvania Electric Co.; and Robert L. Wise, president, Pennsylvania Electric Co.
 The chairperson, vice chairmen and president of the association also serve on the Executive Committee.
 Anderson joined Duquesne Light Co. as general counsel on Sept. 12, 1988. She was named to the Executive Committee in 1990. She is the first woman to serve on the PEA Executive Committee.
 Anderson, who was raised in Tulsa, Okla., is a graduate of Fisk University, Nashville, Tenn., with a degree in sociology. She attended the University of Michigan School of Law and the Detroit College of Law, from which she received the degree of juris doctor in 1974. She served in several capacities in the office of the prosecuting attorney of Genesee County, Mich., before being named to the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) in 1980. She was reappointed in 1983 and served until joining Duquesne Light Co.
 While on the MPSC, Anderson was active in the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC). She served on NARUC's Executive Committee, was former chair of the NARUC Committee on Electricity, former chair of the NARUC Subcommittee on Nuclear Waste Disposal, and served on the NARUC Subcommittee on Finance and Organization.
 As PEA chairperson, Anderson will preside at the bimonthly meetings of the Executive Committee, and will be a principal spokesperson on matters involving the association.
