 EDWARD BARAN JOINS SPEAR FINANCIAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Spear Financial Services


Inc. (NASDAQ: SFNS) announced that Edward J. Baran has joined the company's board of directors. Baran replaces Takayuki Sumitomo, chairman of Sanyo Securities America Inc.
 Baran has spent more than 30 years in the insurance business. Since 1987, he has been the chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of BCS Financial Corp. He was formerly vice chairman, president and chief executive officer of Capitol Life Insurance Company of Denver.
 Charles Spear, chairman of the board, said, "Ed will be an important contributor as we continue to build our fast growing insurance agency business. Ed's experience and stature in the insurance industry are a welcome addition to our board."
 Spear Financial Services Inc. markets tax-advantaged insurance products to customers of financial institutions through James Mitchell & Co. In addition to insurance marketing, the company operates a securities division consisting of a California-based securities brokerage firm and a major Pacific Stock Exchange specialist operation.
