EDWARD A. HORRIGAN, JR. ELECTED LIGGETT GROUP CHAIRMAN AND CEO FORMER RJR NABISCO VICE CHAIRMAN RETURNS TO TOBACCO INDUSTRY

 DURHAM, N.C., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Edward A. Horrigan Jr. has been elected chairman and CEO of Liggett Group Inc., the nation's sixth largest manufacturer of tobacco products, effective May 24.
 Mr. Horrigan, who served as chairman and CEO of the RJR Reynolds Tobacco Co. for almost a decade, also held the post of vice chairman of RJR Nabisco, Inc. until 1989.
 Mr. Horrigan brings to his position a wealth of experience in the tobacco industry. He was responsible for the highly successful operations of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, which included R.J. Reynolds Tobacco USA, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco International and the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Development Company.
 Mr. Horrigan joined R.J. Reynolds in 1978, as chairman and CEO of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco International, Inc. He was elected to the board a year later and promoted to chairman, president and CEO of Reynolds Tobacco in 1980. When Reynolds Industries acquired Nabisco in 1985 he assumed the position of vice chairman of RJR Nabisco, Inc. and continued as chairman and CEO of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco.
 He headed the Buckingham Corporation as chairman and president, and prior to this had held posts with Thomas J. Lipton, Inc., the Ebonite Company and Procter & Gamble.
 The former R.J. Reynolds executive is a director of US Air Group, a director of the Thomas Haggai Foundation and formerly served on the boards of NationsBank, MGM/UA Communications, Piedmont Aviation, H.T.M. Sports Holding B.V., The Horatio Alger Association and the Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
 Liggett Group Inc. is the sixth largest maker of cigarettes in the United States. Its full price brands include Chesterfield, Lark, Eve, L & M along with Pyramid, a lower-priced cigarette.
 Liggett Group Inc. is a subsidiary of Brooke Group Ltd. Brooke also owns a collectible picture product company, SkyBox International, Inc. Brooke has certain other investments in a variety of businesses, including its participation in a number of ventures in the commonwealth of independent states involving manufacturing and natural resources development.
