EDUCATION SECRETARY LAMAR ALEXANDER TO MEET ACADEMIC AND BUSINESS
LEADERS AT THE NEW YORK TIMES PRESIDENTS FORUM
NEW YORK, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, Nov. 22, Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander will address the seventh annual Presidents Forum, sponsored by The New York Times. He will be joined by a panel of distinguished leaders of higher education and industry to discuss the role of business in education. Arthur Sulzberger Jr., deputy publisher of The Times, will host the event, which will be held at the Hudson Theatre of the Hotel Macklowe in New York City.
Secretary Alexander, formerly governor of Tennessee and president of the University of Tennessee, came to his present post in the spring of this year. He is an advocate of remodeling the nation's school system and of greater participation by the corporate community. His early appointments have included David Kearns, former chairman of Xerox Corporation, as Deputy Secretary.
Other panel members will include Will Price, president of Chevron U.S.A.; Dr. W. Ann Reynolds, Chancellor of the City University of New York, and Stephen Joel Trachtenberg, president of The George Washington University. Lawrie Mifflin, national education editor of The New York Times, will be the moderator.
