EDUCATION MINISTER ADEMI HOPES SONK LETS ACADEMIC YEAR BEGIN ON TIME.
Minister of Education Arber Ademi hopes that SONK, the trade union of education, science and culture, is going to give up its idea of holding a strike and let the new academic year begin on time.
Ademi said that the Ministry of Education remained committed to holding constructive talks with the union. In his opinion, the wage increase of the past year of 10.8 percent is something that has not happened in years.
"Last year we raised the salary by 5 percent. In September, it's going to climb up by another 5 percent. There will be yet another increase yet I can't say when because we need to wait and see the budget projections for next year. We remain open for dialogue. I sincerely hope that SONK, our friends with whom we have cooperated well so far, will give up their idea of holding a strike and will let the academic year begin on 2 September," Ademi said.
The new teachers' law, according to Minister Ademi, is going to create possibilities for promotion for all teachers.
The Ministry of Education and SONK are expected to meet again this week.
