School: Acklam Grange School Address: Lodore Grove, Acklam, Middlesbrough, TS5 8PB Head of school: Ms Andrea Crawshaw What are your school's aims and policies? Acklam Grange is a comprehensive and inclusive school with a focus on learning for all the family. A big school with a big heart, our priority is our students' achievement, empowering every child to exceed expectations and be the best that they can be. Every child benefits from an individual learning experience in a familyfocused learning community that recognises their specific needs through curriculum choice and tailored support.

High quality facilities offer an exceptional environment where learning is fun, accessible and relevant, preparing students for further and higher education and the world of work. We are proud of our students, our values and our drive to succeed, balancing the principles by which we live: "Care, Courtesy and Consideration", with the principles by which we work: "Pace, Passion and Purpose". This is demonstrated through AGSPride - an Acklam Grange Way for students rooted in key principles of Perseverance, Respect, Initiative, Direction, Expression. What do our students think? "Acklam Grange School has helped me to be the person I am today. I will always remember 'if it is to be it is up to me'."

What were you rated in your last Ofsted? We are due to be inspected shortly and we expect to be judged as good because of the progress we and our students have made since our last inspection in December 2013. We have spent much time and resources putting into place strategies to challenge and so to improve achievement, teaching and learning, behaviour and leadership. Our results 2015 show that every single Year 11 student added more than half a GCSE grade extra than expected in every subject that they studied - excellent value added. 68% gained 5A*-C including English (literacy or language) and maths, 77% gained 5 or more good GCSEs, 32% gained 3 or more A/A* grades and 22% gained the Ebacc.

Do you have a school council? What are they currently working on? Student Leadership is a key part of life at Acklam Grange School. We have an effective School Council complimented by student leadership in each year group, anti-bullying ambassadors and prefects, senior prefects/head boy/ head girl chosen from Year 10 into 11 students.

Recently the School Council campaigned for the introduction of blazers to our school uniform. After consultation, governors agreed to this so from January 2016, all students will be wearing a black blazer on top of our red jumper.

What after-school clubs do you run? We offer a whole host of clubs, trips and experiences before school, during school time, at lunch-times and after school.

These include: Free breakfast for all students, sports, drama and dance and music clubs, school trips including as a ski trip to Italy and modern foreign languages trips, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and subject specific trips; visits to workplaces and universities. We also use our modern technology to access the global classroom through Skype, interviewing Hollywood stars, sporting celebrities and staff and students worldwide. Tell us something we didn't know about your school: The word "Acklam" was referred to as "Aclun" in the Domesday Book. It is believed that the name is Anglo-Saxon for "place at the oak clearings" or "place of oaks". This is why our dining hall is called the 'Oakleaf Caffe' - the Acorn Centre and our school logo contains the oakleaf emblem. As the proverb says: "Mighty oaks from Calendar of events Nov 11: Redcar & Cleveland College open evening, full time November 24: Stockton Sixth Form College open evening, 6-8pm Dec 8: Academy Awards evening Dec 9: Redcar & Cleveland College open evening, full time and part time Feb 4: Post 16 open evening, 4.30-8.30pm
