EDS PURCHASES BEI GOLEMBE

ATLANTA, May 10 /PRNewswire/ --In continued expansion of its rapidly growing consulting business, EDS Corporation (NYSE: GME) announced today that it had agreed to purchase BEI Golembe, a leading financial-industry consulting firm, from the firm's parent company, BEI Holdings, Ltd. (NASDAQ: BEIH).
The agreement has been signed by both parties, and the transaction is expected to be closed within the next few weeks.
Since 1990, EDS, the global information technology company, has dramatically expanded its business consulting practice in a wide variety of industries. The acquisition of BEI Golembe will immediately make EDS a major force in the area of providing consulting services to the financial industry.
BEI Golembe is headquartered in Atlanta and has operations in Europe as well as in the United States. Under the agreement, the company's 100 employees will join EDS.
"We are extremely pleased to have the highly regarded team of BEI Golembe professionals join EDS," said Gary J. Fernandes, EDS senior vice president and director. "We are committed to providing consulting services of the highest-possible quality to our thousands of customers around the world, and BEI Golembe will help us do that.
"BEI's consultants are experts in helping banks and other financial institutions improve their business performance," Fernandes added. "And that is what EDS is all about -- helping customers improve business performance."
Gerald E. Eickhoff, president of BEI Holdings, said his company would "continue to focus our efforts on increasing shareholder value and will utilize the proceeds from the sale of our financial-consulting subsidiary to further our position as a leader in the real estate asset management and outplacement change management businesses.
"We believe this is an excellent move for both parties," Eickhoff said, adding that "the combination of our consulting with EDS' broad technological support and considerable resources will be an unbeatable combination."
Coley Clark, EDS vice president in charge of the company's Financial Industry Group, said, "One of the trends we're seeing in the financial industry is a demand for more comprehensive business planning tools. Banks are looking for innovative ways to become more profitable and more performance-driven. With the purchase of BEI Golembe, EDS will be able to bring high-quality consulting to our customers in the financial industry."
EDS has operations in more than 30 countries, employs more than 70,000 people and is the leader in applying information technology to meet the needs of businesses and governments around the globe. Stock reflecting EDS' performance is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GME. EDS reported revenues of $8.2 billion in 1992.
EDS' consulting business has more than tripled in the past two years. Among EDS' service offerings in the area of management consulting are business planning, business process design, resource management, technical application and change management.
