 ATLANTA, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- EDS (NYSE: GME) today announced it

that it has enhanced its position as a leading provider of information technology services in the energy market with the acquisition of Energy Management Associates, Inc. (EMA).
 EMA is a recognized leader in providing planning software and regulatory and management consulting to the electric and gas utilities industry. It has more than 150 customers in the United States, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom and Ireland, and EMA customers represent over 90 percent of U.S. generating capacity. EMA's products include both strategic and operational planning systems and detailed forecasting and budgeting systems. Its planning and forecasting tools are widely acknowledged as market leaders.
 EMA's comprehensive industry knowledge further strengthens EDS' presence in the the utility marketplace, according to Tom Bockholt, EDS corporate vice president. "The blending of EDS' technology capabilities with EMA's industry knowledge creates a powerful combination that can have significant impact on every element of a utility enterprise," he said.
 EMA's consulting capabilities, product offerings and customer base will serve as industry entrees for EDS and strongly position the company to be the premier provider of IT services to the utility industry. EMA will operate as a division of EDS with responsibility for developing the utility business.
 EMA, founded in 1975 and privately held, has over 200 employees and maintains headquarters in Atlanta, with an additional office in San Francisco. EMA subsidiary AER(asterisk)X, a Washington, D.C.-based emissions trading consulting firm, is included in the acquisition.
 EDS has operations in 30 countries, employs 65,000 people worldwide and is the leader in providing information technology services. EDS' Energy and Chemicals Division serves customers in the oil, gas, utility, chemical, pharmaceutical and mining industries. Stock reflecting EDS' performance is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GME. EDS reported revenues of $6.1 billion in 1990.
