REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Edmark Corp. (NASDAQ: EDMK) today reported results for its first quarter ended Sept. 30, 1993. Net sales for the quarter were $2,8 million, up 42 percent from 1992 first quarter sales of $2.0 million. Net earnings for the quarter were $4,298, compared to $80,440 in the same period a year ago. Net earnings per share were break even in the current period, compared to $0.03 per share in the prior year's period.
"We continued to see strong growth in all categories of sales," reported Sally Narodick, Edmark chief executive officer. "Sales of the company's early childhood products in the consumer market were $560,000 or 28 percent of sales, and accounted for two-thirds of the sales increase. Our special education products and TouchWindow also showed strength during the quarter."
The company recently released two additional products to its line of early childhood software, and announced several new awards for Millie's Math House, KidDesk and Bailey's Book House.
"The MS-DOS version of our newest product, Thinkin' Things, shipped at the end of September to a very positive reception by the market and reviewers," said Narodick. "We expect to ship the Macintosh version of Thinkin' Things and introduce another new product, KidDesk Family Edition for Windows, in the second quarter."
According to Narodick, Edmark will continue to increase product development efforts, and the related research and development and product launch expenses are expected to have a dampening impact on profitability in the current fiscal year.
"These expenses are investments toward our strategic goal of building a broad line of early childhood and special education products," Narodick summarized.
