EDITORIAL WEEK IN REVIEW.

A roundup of some of our more important editorials this past week

``Do no more harm''

With less than a month left in the tenure of the outgoing, lame-duck City Council, we implore its members to do what they do best: nothing. They should save the duty of leadership for their newly elected successors.

``Unsolving problems''

Rather than assess the needs of individual schools and communities, LAUSD superintendent Roy Romer has issued an ill-considered edict requiring new teachers to work in South Central. Ignorant of the LAUSD's failed history, he appears hell-bent on repeating it.

``Pothole politics''

In Tuesday's elections, Los Angeles voters chose pothole politics - in which problems are fixed, not ignored - over ideological vision. Good for them!

``No more excuses''

Thanks to Marlene Canter's victory over Valerie Fields, the Los Angeles school board is now controlled by self-styled reformers. Let the revolution begin, so the kids will benefit.
