An American tragedy
The fury of Hurricane Katrina can rightly be called an act of God. The destruction of the great city of New Orleans cannot, for the responsibility falls squarely on the shoulders of human beings.
It's hardly an honor worth celebrating, but Los Angeles is, once again, headed toward being named the smoggiest place in the United States.
Faster traffic fix
Los Angeles commuters can't wait for improvements on the 405 Freeway, and the federal funding won't be around forever. To get the freeway moving, the politicians must side with the people - and not the special interests.
Certainly getting picked to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games would be a tremendous honor for Los Angeles. But before there's a lot of time and money invested into the effort, city officials need to answer one important question: Why?
