EDITORIAL CHURCH AND CITY GARCETTI NEEDS TO DRIVE DEMONS OUT OF L.A. GOVERNMENT.
``I view this chamber as a synagogue,'' Garcetti said, which would make him and his colleagues the high priests and priestesses of City Hall.
``The moment we degrade this place is the moment we degrade democracy.''
Amen. Now if only Brother Eric would lead the charge in chasing the money-changers -- the lobbyists, the contractors and the special interests -- out of the temple.
Sure, some civility in the council chamber would be nice, but it's not bad manners that's degraded L.A. government. It's the culture of corruption that's alienated the public and given City Hall such a poor reputation.
If Garcetti means what he says, he's got a lot of work ahead of him to exorcise the demons of corruption from the municipal temple. But if he succeeds, it would truly be divine.
