EDISON UNVEILS UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM 'IN CONCERT WITH THE ENVIRONMENT'

ROSEMEAD, Calif., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern California Edison is providing students with the means to help educate their parents on the importance of protecting the environment and conserving energy. In partnership with EcoGroup Inc., Edison is presenting an exciting new educational program which helps students and parents work together "In Concert with the Environment." An exciting music video introducing this unique program is being shown initially to about 3,500 high school students in the El Monte and Pomona Unified School Districts in California, and at Don Bosco Technical Institute in San Gabriel, Calif., over the next few weeks.
"Students are very positive about the video's message," said Tani Welsh, Edison's manager of educational services. "Conserving energy and protecting the environment should be top priorities with today's youth."
After viewing the video, students are given an energy efficiency audit to complete at home with their family. Back in the classroom, they personally input their responses into a computer program specifically designed to compile a report, which includes recommendations for energy efficient practices at home and information about pertinent Edison services, programs and rebates.
"For many of these students, this is their first chance to use state-of-the-art computers," Welsh said. "Using the computers for real-life energy audits which benefit the student's family and the environment can also make learning fun in the process."
Edison representatives show the video and present the program to students. District teachers receive curriculum training and materials to provide students with in-class instruction. Each student completing an energy audit receives a Choice Pack full of low-cost, energy saving solutions for the student's home -- including a compact fluorescent light bulb, low-flow showerhead and weatherstripping.
