EDISON OFFERS REBATES ON NEW, ENERGY EFFICIENT REFRIGERATORS

SAN DIMAS, Calif., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Summer 1993 -- Southern California Edison has announced the start of its 1993 Refrigerator Rebate program. Beginning May 28, Edison residential customers can earn rebates of $50, $75 or $100 for buying a qualifying, energy- efficient refrigerator.
The rebate program has proven very popular with Edison customers seeking new refrigerators, as well as with major appliance dealers in Southern California. Over the past 10 years, Edison rebate programs have drawn hundreds of thousands of Edison customers to showrooms to see the latest in energy-efficient appliances.
Edison offers rebates only on models which exceed California Energy Commission standards by 10 percent or more. The $50 rebate applies to models exceeding standards by 10 percent to 14.9 percent. Edison also offers a $75 rebate for models which are 15 percent to 19.9 percent above standards and $100 for models exceeding standards by 20 percent or more.
About 300 refrigerator models qualify for rebates, according to Edison program guidelines. Most qualifying models are labeled and clearly identifiable in retail showrooms.
Edison, a national leader in energy-efficiency programs, services and information, offers these rebates to help customers use energy wisely. Many new refrigerators use only half the electricity of similar models sold 15 years ago. Reducing energy use helps lower customer electric bills, reduce air pollution and defer the building of costly new power plants.
Rebates are limited to Edison residential customers who purchase qualifying refrigerators for use in residences served by Edison. The refrigerator must be purchased between May 28 and Sept. 6, with applications submitted by Sept. 17 to qualify for a rebate. Rebates are subject to availability of funds and discontinuance of the program by the California Public Utilities Commission. Refrigerators must be 12 cubic feet or larger and must be new and cannot be leased, rented or won as prizes.
Edison offers a free Refrigerator Rebate Program brochure which describes program requirements and lists refrigerator models which qualify for a rebate. Edison also offers tips for purchasing an energy-efficient refrigerator. To obtain the brochure, tips on refrigerator purchases, or a rebate application, call Edison's Action Line at 800-952-5062, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Materials also are available at most Edison business offices and area appliance dealers.
