EDISON ANNOUNCES "EARLY START" PROGRAM ROLL-OUT
 AT EL CAMINO COLLEGE
ROSEMEAD, Calif., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern California Edison, in partnership with El Camino College, announced Edison's new "Early Start" program today. "Early Start," an Edison-supported educational program, offers academic and personal enrichment for "at-risk" students in the Inglewood and Centinela Valley School Districts.
"Edison and El Camino College teamed-up to assist 'at-risk' students by creating the Early Start program. El Camino College will work in conjunction with the two districts to identify 450 eighth-grade students to participate in campus tours and an orientation to be held this spring. Beginning in July, 75 selected ninth-grade students will participate in a four-week summer academy at El Camino that will focus on math, English, computer competency and learning skills," said Edison area manager, Ted Porter.
"The Early Start program also includes parents who will be invited to attend Saturday Academy workshops and receive information on helping their child complete high school, college preparation and financial planning," Porter added.
Edison is supporting the Early Start program with a grant to the California Community College Foundation. Early Start is another example of Edison's commitment to provide educational opportunities for "at-risk" students.
