EDDIE BAUER NAMES NEW MERCHANDISING AND MARKETING HEAD
REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Eddie Bauer, a leading retailer of outdoor and casual apparel, today named Richard T. Fersch to the newly created position of executive vice president of merchandising/marketing, effective Jan. 2, 1992. Fersch will have responsibility for all merchandising groups, including women's wear, men's wear, footwear, hardware, home fashions and product development, and both store and catalog marketing. He will report to Wayne Badovinus, president and chief executive officer of Eddie Bauer.
"Eddie Bauer's total business and number of stores have both grown three fold in the last three years," said Badovinus. "Rick Fersch's job will be to manage the merchandising of a more sizable company, while maintaining the focus that makes Eddie Bauer distinct."
Fersch is currently senior vice president of stores. He joined Eddie Bauer as vice president of stores in 1988. Before that, he had been senior vice president, director of stores and visual merchandising for G. Fox, a division of May Co. His 20 years of experience in retailing includes merchandising and store management with May Department Stores and BATUS.
Taking over the stores responsibility, which includes store management and visual display, will be Ray G. Brunner, who will also maintain his current duties as vice president of real estate. He will also report to Badovinus.
Brunner's 20 years of retailing experience includes the positions of president and chief executive officer with both Conran's Habitat in New York and Scandia Down in Seattle. Among his accomplishments is launching the Gap Kids division of The Gap. Brunner joined Eddie Bauer in 1991.
"The merchandising and stores responsibility are both crucial," said Badovinus. "We've taken two seasoned pros and dedicated them to two major elements of our future."
Eddie Bauer is the creator and exclusive purveyor of the Eddie Bauer brand of outdoor and casual apparel, and now home furnishings, through catalogs and more than 200 specialty stores. Businesses include All Week Long women's wear and Home Collection. Eddie Bauer is a wholly owned subsidiary of Spiegel Inc., the dominant multi- channel specialty retailer. Spiegel's Class A non-voting common stock trades on the NASDAQ National Market System under the ticker symbol: SPGLA.
