 EDDIE BAUER COMES HOME TO FLAGSHIP SEATTLE STORE;
 OUTDOOR OUTFITTER EXPANDS OFFERINGS OF STORE ONE OPERATION
 REDMOND, Wash., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Eddie Bauer, the outdoor apparel and gear expert that has outfitted Northwesterners for over 72 years, said today it is expanding the offerings of its flagship store at 5th and Union in the heart of downtown Seattle.
 The cornerstone of Eddie Bauer's growing U.S. retail business, the distinctive flagship location -- known for its unique features such as a brook running through the central area of the store -- has long been a symbol of the company's commitment to the Pacific Northwest. The flagship has evolved in recent years in line with Eddie Bauer's own growth, but the company has remained focused on the Number One store's importance to Seattle shoppers and out-of-town visitors as a unique destination in which the outfitter's casual, outdoor lifestyle heritage is found in both its merchandise and the surrounding decor.
 "The Northwest is Eddie Bauer's lifeblood, its history, and our 5th and Union flagship location is an important part of that history," said Wayne Badovinus, Eddie Bauer's president and chief executive officer. "The flagship embodies our long-time dedication to the relaxed, outdoor lifestyle of our Seattle customers."
 As part of that customer commitment, the company is introducing Seattle to the Eddie Bauer Home Collection, a division developed specifically to fulfill the lifestyle needs of its customers both inside and outside the home. Though this distinctive collection is new, Eddie Bauer has recognized the needs of the home for years, as exemplified by their 54-year expertise in the goose down comforter business.
 The Eddie Bauer Home Collection, which has been available by catalog since February of 1991, will open its first Northwest store in the flagship location on Friday, May 15.
 The Eddie Bauer Home Collection will also feature a first-ever Collectors' Corner, which will showcase finely crafted furnishings from Stickley, as well as carefully selected collectibles from across the country.
 The downtown Seattle store's lower level has been completely redesigned to accommodate the Eddie Bauer Home Collection. Unique treatments have been incorporated into the decor to bring added ambience and character to the 5,000-square-foot space.
 "The Eddie Bauer Home Collection appeals to people who value comfort and tradition, to people who place a premium on natural surroundings," said Cory Strait, vice president - Home Merchandising for Eddie Bauer. "We want to give Seattle customers a convenient, full-service shopping experience, in which they can find apparel and gear for themselves, as well as beautiful, value-oriented furnishings and accessories for their homes.
 "The Eddie Bauer Home Collection is very much in line with our Northwest customer -- particularly in terms of comfortable, quality living and entertaining," continued Strait. "We are excited to house the Home Collection and Collectors' Corner in Eddie Bauer's dynamic flagship location."
 The company's outdoor heritage is reflected in the broad range of products found in the Eddie Bauer Home Collection. Nearly half of the products are exclusive, designed by Eddie Bauer's own product design team. Included are hardwood and upholstered furniture, tableware, domestics, bath, kitchen, garden and seasonal merchandise.
 The Eddie Bauer Home Collection, which includes a regular catalog offering, anticipates continued U.S. retail expansion throughout 1992.
 Headquartered near Seattle, in Redmond, Eddie Bauer today operates over 230 stores across North America, and distributes 30 different catalog offerings to more than 65 million customers around the world. Eddie Bauer Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Spiegel Inc. (NASDAQ: SPGLA).
