 ECONOMY NAMES ERIC PUNTNEY EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
 AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
 FREEPORT, Ill., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Economy Fire & Casualty Company has announced the appointment of Eric Puntney to the dual positions of executive vice president and chief operating officer at the firm's corporate headquarters.
 Economy Board Chairman and President Donald E. Bitz said Puntney's appointment was confirmed during the company's March board of directors meeting at Kemper Corp. in Long Grove, Ill. Economy is a business unit of Kemper Corp. (NYSE: KEM).
 Bitz said, "I'm extremely pleased to announce this appointment. Eric brings a great deal of expertise to this position. He will be taking on additional responsibilities in the corporate operation of the company, and I'm looking forward to working with him in this expanded role."
 Bitz will continue as board chairman, president and chief executive officer of Economy, a regional property-casualty insurance carrier.
 Puntney is an 18-year veteran with Economy. After managing a branch office in Ames, Iowa, for four years he came to the company's corporate headquarters and was a division manager for ten years.
 He was named assistant vice president in 1987, a member of the board of directors in 1990 and vice president and director of marketing/underwriting in 1991. His appointment as executive vice president and chief operating officer is effective immediately.
 A native of Mt. Vernon, Ill., Puntney holds a B.S. degree from Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau. He and his wife, Jo Ann, are the parents of two sons.
 Economy markets mostly personal lines insurance products through approximately 1,700 independent agents in 20 states in the midwest, south and southwest.
 The company is the largest writer of homeowners and private passenger auto coverages through the independent agency system in Illinois, and is the oldest auto insurance specialty company in existence in the state.
 Economy recorded 1991 net written premiums of $411.6 million, with year-end assets of $770.4 million.
 Kemper Corp. is a nonoperating holding company with subsidiaries in investment services, life insurance, reinsurance, property-casualty insurance and risk management.
