ECONOMY FIRE & CASUALTY COMPANY TO CLOSE CROSSETT, ARKANSAS, REGIONAL OFFICE IN COST-CUTTING DRIVE

ECONOMY FIRE & CASUALTY COMPANY TO CLOSE CROSSETT, ARKANSAS,
 REGIONAL OFFICE IN COST-CUTTING DRIVE
CROSSETT, Ark., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Economy Fire & Casualty Company today announced it will close its Crossett regional office, which will affect 48 full-time employees, effective Aug. 28. The closure is part of Economy's ongoing cost-reduction program aimed at offering quality services at the lowest possible prices in a highly competitive rate environment.
Donald E. Bitz, president and chief executive officer of Economy, stressed that the closure of the Crossett regional office will not affect Economy's relationships with its agents or policyholders. In fact, the eight outside marketing representatives and claim staff dedicated to Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, the states that are presently serviced out of the Crossett office, will continue in their present job functions.
Economy's 154 agents and approximately 50,000 policyholders in the four-state region will now be serviced from the company's Centralia, Ill., office.
"We continue to be dedicated to providing quality service to the policyholders in these states, while keeping their premiums at the lowest rates possible," Bitz said. "The closure is part of this effort.
"This decision is the result of a great deal of serious deliberation. The Crossett Regional employees are a dedicated group of workers," he continued. "Economy will take steps to assist the people who are being affected by the closure."
Affected employees will be eligible for a severance package, which is tied to length of service. In addition, the company will offer additional assistance to these workers in the form of counseling and job referral assistance.
Economy Fire & Casualty Company is a subsidiary of Kemper Corp. With an employee base of 1,400, the company markets auto, homeowners, farmowners, multi-peril, fire and allied coverages through approximately 1,800 agents in 20 states.
