ECONOMY: EMITT FAIR -Yemen to be guest country of this year's fair.

ISTANBUL, Feb 2, 2011 (TUR) -- Yemen will be the guest country of this year's East Mediterranean Tourism & Travel Exhibition (EMITT), the organizer company said on Wednesday.

A statement of the organizer company said Yemen's decision to lift visa requirements for Turks had brought the two countries closer.

"In a bid to bring more Turkish tourists to the country, Yemen will be demonstrating its historical, natural and cultural attractions with visitors at EMITT," the statement said.

The EMITT 2011 will take place at Istanbul's TUYAP International Fair and Congress Center from February 10 to 13.

The statement defined Yemen as a country that boasted unspoiled beauty in the Arabian Peninsula, and said it would be the guest country at EMITT 2011, the sixth largest tourism exhibition in the world.

"Yemen's slogan at EMITT is 'One country, many destinations', and it will be promoted, highlighting their unique cuisines, costumes, traditions and tourism attractions," the statement said.

According to the statement, there will be special Yemeni music and folkloric dance show. Yemeni coffee, raisins & almonds will be offered to visitors passing by Yemen's stand.

Yemeni Deputy Minister of Tourism Omar Babelghaeth, will give a speech during the opening ceremony.

There will also be a raffle and the winner will win a free return ticket from Istanbul to Sana'a.

At EMITT, visitors will be able to discover a lot more about this beautiful country: The 16th-century city of Shibam, offering a journey through history, the oldest skyscrapers in the world, the Socotra Archipalego with its breathtaking nature, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Sana'a with its unique architecture.

With the support of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry, in partnership with TUROFED (Turkey Hoteliers Federation), TYD (Tourism Investment Association), sponsored by the THY Corporation and organized by the EKIN- ITE Group, the EMITT Exhibition will be held for the fifteenth time this year. In 2010, the exhibition attracted 3,500 participants from 59 countries and almost completely filled the available rooms at the TUYAP Exhibition space.

At the EMITT exhibition, attended by 48,000 tourism professionals and 58,000 visitors hailing from 59 countries for a total of 106,850 people, all of Turkey's eminent travel agencies, tour operators, hotels, plus over 150 cities and hundreds of participants from 59 countries prepared for the 2010 season.

Countries joining the EMITT Exhibition include Azerbaijan, Syria, Egypt, Dubai, Sharjah, Greece, Tunisia, Morocco, Japan, Italy, Moldova, the Maldives, the Seychelles Islands, agencies and hotels from Russia, Uzbekistan, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Thailand, India, Yemen, China, Algeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Sudan, Palestine, Kosovo, Lebanon, Armenia, Peru, Argentina and others.
