ECLECTIC MIX FOR CROPREDY KNEES-UP; Folk.

Byline: PETE WILLOW

UB40, Badly Drawn Boy and Hayseed Dixie are among the guests lined up for Fairport's Cropredy Convention.

Around 20,000 music fans will be heading for the North Oxfordshire site near Banbury next week to take part in the annual three-day get-together hosted by folk-rock legends Fairport Convention.

The festival's star-packed programme kicks off 4pm on Thursday with a set by Fairport's acoustic line-up followed by acclaimed young fiddle and guitar duo Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts, rising star singer and guitarist Blair Dunlop, the reunited and celebrated folk-rock band Home Service, Appalachian "rockgrass hellraisiers" Hayseed Dixie and a closing set by Birmingham's reggae superstars UB40.

Next Friday's guests include writer of classic songs Steve Tilston, the innovative arrangements of guitar, percussion and two fiddles of The Urban Folk Quartet and California's blues phenomenon Seasick Steve.

Celtic rockers Horslips perform next Saturday plus award-winning Anglo-Scottish trio Lau and Mercury Music Prize winner Badly Drawn Boy before Fairport Convention's marathon final set.

Earlybird tickets have sold out but tickets should be available at the gate. Go to www.fairportconvention.com for details.
