The new European Commission (EC) has reappointed Margrethe Vestager as antitrust chief.

Vestager's term was to come to an end with elections for the European Parliament. She was expected to remit office after the new European Commission took office.

During her tenure, she had taken strict action against corporate giants such as Apple, Facebook, Google and Amazon, imposing harsh penalties on them.
