EBASCO SELECTED BY DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE FOR PILOT MENTOR-PROTEGE PROGRAM

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Ebasco Services Incorporated announced today that it has been selected to provide technical assistance to small disadvantaged businesses (SDBs) under the Department of Defense (DOD) Pilot Mentor-Protege Program.
Ebasco is one of the prime contractors chosen for the program, which runs for a period of one year with two additional one-year options. To qualify, Ebasco submitted a proposal containing development assistance programs tailored to the needs of five selected protege firms. Among the mentoring activities planned is a series of technical and management workshops, on topics ranging from contract compliance and accounting system improvement to proper procedures for inspecting underground storage tanks.
Established in 1991 through legislation sponsored by U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Ga.), the Pilot Mentor-Protege Program was established to provide an incentive to contractors to help protege firms develop their capabilities, and to foster the establishment of long-term business relationships between mentor and protege firms. The program is an outgrowth of DOD's 5 percent minority contracting goal for its agencies and contractors.
The five minority-owned protege companies selected by Ebasco for this program include: AGEISS Environmental, Inc., Denver; Desmear Systems, Inc., Atlanta; Environmental Consulting Group, Inc., Arlington, Va.; Nobis Engineering, Inc., Irving, Texas; and Zambrana Engineering, Inc., St. Louis.
"These are reliable SDB subcontractors that we have worked well with in the past," says Bill McIntosh, Ebasco senior program manager. "Through the Pilot Mentor-Protege Program, we hope to play a major role in furthering their overall growth. Ultimately, the protege firms will become integral parts of the Ebasco team, and all concerned will benefit from the association."

The company provides a comprehensive range of environmental consulting, engineering and construction services including initial site/facility surveys and assessments, environmental impact studies, facility permitting and licensing, remediation studies, remedial design and cleanup of contaminated sites.
