EASTLAND CENTER KICKS OFF 'PARTNERS IN SAFETY: SALUTE TO OUR SENIORS' WEEK MARCH 11

HARPER WOODS, Mich., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Eastland Center will help more than 400 senior citizens get street-smart about self- protection, con-games and burglary prevention through a free, week-long program called "Partners in Safety: Salute to our Seniors" which begins at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 11 in the Center's Grand Court.

On Monday, March 11, former Detroit Police Officer Peter G. Wesley, who spent several years with the Crime Prevention Unit, will host a seminar concentrating on purchasing proper locks and burglary prevention.

On Tuesday, March 12, Martial Arts Instructor and former Detroit Police officer Walter Woodruff will demonstrate karate techniques and teach seniors effective self-defense methods.

On Wednesday, March 13, U.S. Postal Inspector David Bosch will warn seniors of common con-games that are perpetrated through the U.S. postal service and offer tips on how to avoid becoming a target.

On Thursday, March 14, Harper Woods Fire Inspector Bob Balchunis will present a seminar on how to safeguard your home against fire and what actions you must take if you are a victim of fire.

On Friday, March 15, Sgt. Gary Chapman of Detroit Police Crime Prevention will educate seniors about vehicle safety and tell seniors how to make the trip to their car a safe one.

In addition to the seminars, Eastland will offer participants free lunch and a "behind-the-scenes" tour of the Center.

"'Partners in Safety' is Eastland's new quarterly program that is designed to offer worthwhile activities for members of the Community. The upcoming programs will be held in May, August and October and will focus on law enforcement, recognition for the physically challenged and civic organizations," said Rita Similides, marketing manager for Eastland Center.
