EAST OHIO GAS PRESENTS SMART HOUSE THEATER, INNOVATIVE APPLIANCES AT HOME & FLOWER SHOW

EAST OHIO GAS PRESENTS SMART HOUSE THEATER,
INNOVATIVE APPLIANCES AT HOME & FLOWER SHOW
CLEVELAND, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Cleveland Home & Flower Show will be the first consumer exhibition in the country to feature new SMART HOUSE technology. The East Ohio Gas Company will feature SMART HOUSE, a fully automated, all-gas comfort home, which allows for home energy management, entertainment, lighting control, communications, security and safety, at its Home & Flower Show display. The 1992 Home & Flower Show will run Feb. 21 through March 1 at the Cleveland Convention Center.
The East Ohio Gas display also will feature the latest natural gas appliances, including the multiple oven AGA Cooker gas range.
SMART HOUSE enables homeowners to control basic functions through a centralized control pad, remote control, programmable wall switches or any touch tone telephone in the home, car or office. SMART HOUSE uses specialized natural gas piping and electrical wiring to bring homes into the automation age and make them more marketable.
For example, SMART HOUSE owners returning from a hard day at work could use their cellular phone to activate the thermostat to a natural gas furnace, turn on the oven in the natural gas range, start the home entertainment system and light the gas logs in the fireplace before they arrive home.
Therefore, upon their arrival, the home will be warm, dinner will have been started, soft music will be playing and a cozy fire will be going. That's comfort. The homeowner can arrive home, leaving the stress of work behind and enter a warm, comfortable environment, where dinner and relaxation await. The SMART HOUSE Theater will demonstrate this feature and many other benefits of the new technology.
East Ohio Gas has joined with the Home & Flower Show to bring the SMART HOUSE Theater to Northeast Ohio. SMART HOUSE Theater debuted last month at the National Association of Homebuilders annual convention and exposition in Las Vegas to record-breaking crowds.
In a SMART HOUSE, conventional appliances can be used. Some new appliances, however, feed information into the SMART HOUSE system, providing functions beyond conventional appliances. SMART appliances include natural gas furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces and grills, air conditioning and consumer electronics.
The key for homeowners is to make sure that the basic SMART HOUSE system is installed when building a new house, so they can take full advantage of new
SMART appliances. Following market introduction into the single-family home market, SMART HOUSE products for rewiring multi-family homes will be available. A task force currently is developing products for retrofitting existing homes with SMART HOUSE technology.
East Ohio Gas also will display the AGA Cooker. The range's radiant heating system, multiple ovens and specialized heating plates offer versatility as well as the usual convenience of natural gas ranges.
Home chefs can roast a 25-pound turkey in the high-heat oven while gently baking souffles in the lower oven. Meanwhile, the simmering oven slow cooks casseroles while the warmer keeps foods hot, without over-cooking or drying. On top, two large cooking plates gently simmer or bring several pots to a boil quickly and efficiently and provide a warming surface ideal for carving. The AGA Cooker is available in the four-oven and a new, compact two-oven size.
Cleveland-based East Ohio Gas is the largest subsidiary of Consolidated Natural Gas Company, headquartered in Pittsburgh. The 2,500 employees of East Ohio Gas serve more than one million residential, commercial and industrial customers in 269 Northeast Ohio communities.
