EAST OHIO GAS GAINS NEW SUPPLY FLEXIBILITY WITH NEW ANR PIPELINE CONNECTION

EAST OHIO GAS GAINS NEW SUPPLY FLEXIBILITY
 WITH NEW ANR PIPELINE CONNECTION
CLEVELAND, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- A new connection with ANR Pipeline Company will provide The East Ohio Gas Company and its customers a greater variety of natural gas supply options.
Officials of both companies today conducted a ceremonial turn-on of the new 26-mile, 20-inch pipe line, which connects the ANR main line north of Defiance with the East Ohio Gas city gate in Maumee, near Toledo.
The new ANR connection will provide the utility additional flexibility in securing clean-burning natural gas for its customers, said Russell R. Gifford, East Ohio Gas president. "We work with a variety of suppliers, including ANR, to obtain natural gas supplies at the lowest possible prices," Gifford said.
"This ultimately benefits our customers in the form of some of the lowest natural gas rates in the United States," Gifford said, noting that East Ohio Gas rates are the fifth lowest, among the 25 largest markets nationwide.
ANR became an East Ohio Gas supplier in 1989. "We look forward to working more closely with ANR to provide secure, economical supplies of natural gas for our customers," Gifford said.
"In addition to strengthening our relationship with East Ohio Gas, this new lateral pipeline greatly enhances ANR's ability to serve customers in northern Ohio," noted William J. Haener, ANR Pipeline's executive vice president and chief operating officer.
The East Ohio Gas Company, the largest subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based Consolidated Natural Gas Company (NYSE: CNG), serves more than 1 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in northeast Ohio. East Ohio Gas employs more than 2,500, serving such major markets as Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Warren, Ashtabula, Wooster and New Philadelphia.
ANR, a subsidiary of The Coastal Corporation (NYSE: CGP), supplies, stores, sells and transports natural gas for markets throughout the country. Coastal is a Houston-based energy holding company with $9 billion in consolidated assets and major operations in natural gas pipelines and storage, oil and gas exploration and production, refining and marketing, coal, chemicals and independent power production.
