EAST OHIO GAS ANNOUNCES SIX PERCENT RATE REDUCTION

EAST OHIO GAS ANNOUNCES SIX PERCENT RATE REDUCTION
CLEVELAND, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The East Ohio Gas Company

announced today that is has filed for an overall six percent rate reduction, due to lower gas costs.
This is the 11th straight quarter the company has asked the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to approve a lower gas cost recovery (GCR) component of the company's rates. If approved by the commission, the average residential customer's gas bill will decrease by $1.53 per month during May, June and July. During the past 11 quarters, the company's GCR rate has decreased 79 cents per thousand cubic feet (MCF) of gas used. For the average customer using 150 MCF of gas a year, that represents a potential savings of $118 per year.
If approved, the new GCR rate of $2.679/MCF will go into effect on bills rendered after May 11. The GCR rate has not been this low since the fall of 1981. The GCR is a quarterly adjustment which reflects the prices East Ohio Gas pays its suppliers for natural gas. The company makes no profit on the GCR component, which represents two-thirds of a customer's bill.
"East Ohio Gas' prudent gas purchasing practices, coupled with the decline in gas pricing on a national level enable East Ohio to consistently pass on the benefits of lower gas costs to consumers, while still securing supplies that maintain our priority commitment to serving residential customers," said Patrick A. Carney, vice president of Public Affairs.
Cleveland-based East Ohio Gas is the largest subsidiary of Consolidated Natural Gas Company, headquartered in Pittsburgh. The 2,500 employees of East Ohio Gas serve more than one million residential, commercial and industrial customers in 269 Northeast Ohio communities.
