EAST OHIO GAS: FOURTH QUARTER NATURAL GAS COSTS TO INCREASE

CLEVELAND, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- East Ohio Gas customers could see a 2.5 percent increase in their monthly bills, in the next three months, beginning in November, according to the company's quarterly gas cost recovery (GCR) filing made today with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).
The GCR is expected to increase 13.8 cents per thousand cubic feet (MCF) over the current rate of $3.725 per MCF. If approved by the PUCO, the new GCR rate of $3.863 per MCF would be in effect from Nov. 8, 1993, through Feb. 9, 1994. Typical residential customers using 60.6 MCF during this period can expect to see an average monthly increase of approximately $2.79 for the next three months. Despite this anticipated increase, East Ohio Gas' GCR will remain lower than it was during the same period in 1983, when it was $4.09 per MCF.
The company files GCR adjustments quarterly, reflecting the actual costs of purchasing natural gas supplies. The company does not make a profit on the GCR, which accounts for two-thirds of a customer's bill.
Cleveland-based East Ohio Gas is the largest subsidiary of Consolidated Natural Gas (NYSE: CNG), which is headquartered in Pittsburgh. The 2,500 employees of East Ohio Gas serve more than one million residential, commercial and industrial customers in 270 northeast Ohio communities.
