EARLY TIMES SCHEDULES DEBUT OF NEW GIANT BOTTLE-SHAPED BALLOON

LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- What's square-shaped, as tall as a thirteen-story building, has the capacity to hold more than three million liters of liquid, and will soon be casting its shadow on the cities and farmlands of America?
Why, it's the newly redesigned Early Times hot air balloon, which is scheduled to make its debut at the 21st Annual Kentucky Derby Festival Great Balloon Race, Saturday, April 24!
Sponsored by Early Times Old Style Kentucky Whisky, the balloon is an exact replica of an Early Times Kentucky Whisky bottle and is one of only a handful of square-shaped balloons in the world. The new balloon, which sports an Early Times label on each of its four sides, replaces the first Early Times hot-air craft that made its maiden voyage in 1989.
Like its predecessor, the updated balloon is 130 feet tall and is recognized as the tallest U.S. registered aircraft. Its volume of 120,000 cubic feet is heated by a burner powerful enough to heat 180 2,000-square-foot homes. The "bottle" portion of the balloon is formed by merging eight balloons into one, with three additional balloons forming the "neck," or top of the balloon.
Interestingly, it would take 3,398,022 million liters or 883,485 gallons of Early Times Kentucky Whisky to fill the bottle-shaped balloon.
The Early Times balloon is piloted by veteran balloonist Mike Kirk, who has guided the previous Early Times bottle-shaped craft in more than 100 ballooning events and races since 1989. Kirk, also a licensed airplane pilot, was named the 1988 Balloon Society of Kentucky Combined Points Race champion.
In addition to the Kentucky Derby Festival Great Balloon Race, the Early Times balloon is scheduled to participate in 19 other festivals and competitions across the country throughout the year.
Established in 1860, Early Times Distillery Company is located in Louisville. Early Times Old Style Kentucky whisky products are marketed by the Brown-Forman Beverage Company, a division of Brown-Forman Corporation in Kentucky.
