EAR BOY; HOUND DOG'S LUGS ARE LONGEST IN WORLD.

Byline: John Ferguson

HE ain't nothing but a hound dog - but his amazing ears have made him a world beater.

Harbor has earned a spot in the record books for having the longest doggy lugs.

The right one is 13.5 inches long while the left is slightly shorter at 12.25 inches.

The eight-year-old coonhound's ear-span is even greater than the height of the world's shortest man, Junrey Balawing, who is 23.5 inches tall.

As a puppy, Harbor would struggle with the colossal ears and frequently trip over them and fall down stairs.

Owner Jennifer Wert, from Colorado, said: "Cars will stop in the street to take a closer look and get a picture. Often strangers will tug his big ears, which he really doesn't enjoy.

"Most days, I forget how oddly long they are. He's a phenomenon in the world and he creates smiles wherever we go."

Coonhounds were originally used to hunt raccoons and their long ears are used for tracking, not enhanced hearing.

When moving around, his gigantic lugs will fall into a rhythm that helps sweep scents into his nose.

Harbor earned his place in the Guinness World Records 2012 Edition after the previous record holder, a bloodhound called Tigger from Illinois, died.
