                   EUGENE P. RUEHLMANN AS DIRECTORS
    CINCINNATI, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Eagle-Picher Industries (NYSE: EPI) today announced the election of Powell McHenry, retired senior vice president and general counsel with the Procter & Gamble Company and Eugene P. Ruehlmann, a partner in the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, to the company's board of directors.
    McHenry joined Procter & Gamble as associate general counsel in 1975, and in 1983 was named senior vice president and general counsel, serving in that capacity until his retirement in May 1991.  McHenry also served as general counsel to Federated Department Stores, Inc. from 1971 to 1975.  Prior to joining Procter & Gamble, McHenry was a partner with the Cincinnati law firm of Dinsmore & Shohl from 1958 through 1975, and upon retirement returned to the firm as Of Counsel.  He was the president of the Cincinnati Bar Association from 1979 to 1980 and a member of the executive committee during the years 1975 to 1981. McHenry is a 1949 graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Harvard Law School.
    Ruehlmann was mayor of Cincinnati from 1967-1971.  During his tenure at city hall, significant revitalization occurred in downtown Cincinnati, including the new Fountain Square, Riverfront Stadium and the Convention Center.  Ruehlmann is a native Cincinnatian and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Harvard Law School.  He is a member of the board of directors of Western-Southern Life Insurance Company and other Cincinnati corporations.  He is also a member of the board of trustees of Children's Hospital Medical Center, the Work and Rehabilitation Centers of Cincinnati, Inc. and numerous other charitable organizations.  Ruehlmann is chairman of the Hamilton County Republican Central Committee.
    Also effective Nov. 5, 1991, Richard T. Farmer resigned from the board of directors.  He was elected to the company's board of directors on Aug. 1, 1984.  He is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Cintas Corporation, a Cincinnati-based company which is a leader in the uniform-rental business.  His experience and counsel will be missed.
