EA Wins Biomonitoring Contract From Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation & New York Power Authority Valued At More Than $500K.

BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1998--EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: EACO), announced the award of a 5-year contract to provide radiological sampling and biological monitoring at the James A. Fitzpatrick and Nine Mile Point Nuclear Stations, both located in Scriba, New York.

EA will work in close partnership with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation and the New York Power Authority in meeting State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) permit compliance requirements. The contract is valued at more than half a million dollars.

In 1997, the company successfully obtained ISO 14001 certification for its nuclear plant. Niagara Mohawk is the first in the nation to achieve ISO 14001, an internationally recognized environmental certification, at all its plants-nuclear and fossil-fired.

EA's project activities for Niagara Mohawk will include collection and analysis of in-plant biological samples at each of two generating station locations, as well as collection of samples in support of the client's radiological monitoring program. EA has already designed, built, and installed innovative equipment such as a net/barrel sampling device, now in operation at several generating stations in New York.
