EA SPORTS SIGNS BILL WALSH TO CO-DESIGN COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME

/FOLLOWING IS A REPEAT OF RELEASE FROM MAY 17, 1993/
SAN MATEO, Calif., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- EA SPORTS (Electronic

Arts, NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today the signing of Bill Walsh to collaborate on the upcoming Sega(TM) Genesis(TM) game, "Bill Walsh College Football"(TM). The game is scheduled for release in August.
"Bill Walsh College Football" is the latest product from EA SPORTS, the leading publisher of sports video games. The company is excited that Walsh, who has just finished his first promising season as head coach for the Stanford University Cardinal, will lend his sharp instincts and ingenious strategies to assist in the design of the game.
"Bill Walsh will be extensively involved in the game development process, ranging from giving scouting reports on last year's top 24 teams, including Stanford, to devising play-calling strategies and scripts, and offering playbook analysis," said Scott Orr, executive producer for EA SPORTS. "The plan is to put Walsh's unique philosophy and personality into the game just like we did with our John Madden game."
"Walsh's reputation and focus on teaching were also important to us in that we want 'College Football' and future EA SPORTS games to teach kids about sports as well as be a lot of fun to play," added Orr.
Orr and his development team have designed "Bill Walsh College Football" so that players will be able to study Walsh's complex strategies, then use them against 48 of the best teams in college football. Play in the snow, rain and sun with the '92 champions from Alabama, or choose classic teams like Michigan of '85 and Nebraska of '83.
The games includes a low, on-field perspective that puts players in the middle of the action. Reverse-angle instant replay, customized audibles and play-call mode options give players more control than any other football game on the market. On-field animations and "stadium cams" capture all the excitement and drama of college football.
"This is a very exciting game," commented Walsh. "You can be a novice at football and get right into it, or if you're an absolute expert you can apply that expertise as you play the game. 'Bill Walsh College Football' gives every fan something they can really enjoy."
Walsh joins a prestigious lineup of EA SPORTS licenses that include Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, John Madden, Tony La Russa, PGA(R) TOUR, MLBPA(R), NHLPA(R), NHL(R), NBA(R), and the NFL(R).
