E.W. SCRIPPS SELLS KUPL-AM

CINCINNATI, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP), has reached an agreement to sell Portland, Ore., radio station KUPL to BayCom L.P. of San Francisco for $23 million.
KUPL, Portland's top country music station, is simulcast on AM 1330 and FM 98.5. The station is operated through the company's 86-percent- owned subsidiary, Scripps Howard Broadcasting (NASDAQ: SCRP).
The company now has agreements to sell all of its radio stations, in keeping with a previously announced decision to leave the radio industry. On July 22, an agreement was signed to sell Baltimore's WVRT-FM to Capitol Broadcasting, Inc., of Raleigh, N.C., for $9.75 million. Three days earlier, an agreement was reached to sell Memphis, Tenn., radio stations WMC-AM and WMC-FM, along with television station WMC-TV, an NBC affiliate, to Ellis Communications, Inc. of Atlanta for $65 million.
All of the transactions are subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
Following the sale of WMC-TV and the radio station group, the company's broadcast operations will include three NBC television affiliates, in Baltimore; West Palm Beach, Fla.; and Tulsa, Okla.; three Fox affiliates, in Phoenix; Tampa, Fla.; and Kansas City, Mo.; two ABC affiliates, in Detroit and Cleveland; and one CBS affiliate, in Cincinnati.
The E.W. Scripps Company also operates 20 daily newspapers, cable systems with 679,000 subscribers, and is a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics.
