PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- A federal court jury yesterday awarded a total of $1.4 million to E.J. Lavino & Company (Lavino) against Universal Health Services (NYSE: UHS), of King of Prussia, Pa., and certain of its officers.
The case arose out of the 1987 sale by UHS to Lavino of the stock in Franklin Financial Corp., a lessor of equipment. Lavino alleged, and the jury found, that there were misrepresentations in connection with the sale and that UHS had made certain warranties and representations concerning the company which were untrue. Lavino, which is in bankruptcy, was represented by George E. McDavid and Henry F. Reichner, both of Reed Smith Shaw & McClay in Philadelphia.
