E-SYSTEMS ECI DIVISION AWARDED CONTRACT BY SPRINT

DALLAS, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- E-Systems ECI Division, St. Petersburg, Fla., was awarded a $4 million, three-year contract by Sprint, Government Systems Division for support of the Government Emergency Telecommunications Service (GETS) program. ECI will provide hardware and software for 41 Sprint switching sites and one control center.
GETS will provide authorized government officials priority access to telecommunications lines during emergencies such as Hurricane Andrew or the floods in the Midwest. The government plans to activate GETS by late 1994, and ECI will help maintain the system after activation.
This is the first contract win by ECI's TeleSecurity(TM) business area. TeleSecurity products provide access control and protection for computer and communications systems vulnerable to unauthorized access. Combining existing commercial technology with ECI expertise in secure communications, S?ecurity systems will provide protection for both providers and users of telecommunications services.
"This is a new initiative in the company's plan to adapt defense technology to related commercial and industrial applications. In this case there is a growing need for better data security in commercial as well as government applications," said E. Gene Keiffer, chairman and chief executive officer of E-Systems.
Targeted market industries will include financial and banking, oil and gas, chemicals, and telecommunications.
E-Systems is a major worldwide developer and producer of electronics systems and products in the areas of intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance systems, command and control, specialized aircraft maintenance and modification, guidance, navigation and control, communications and data systems.
