E-SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES ENTRY INTO MEDICAL ELECTRONICS MARKET
DALLAS, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- E-Systems (NYSE: ESY) today announced the formation of a new subsidiary, E-Systems Medical Electronics, Inc., (EMED) which will report to Peter A. Marino, E-Systems senior vice president.
The new subsidiary has acquired Advanced Video Products, Inc. (AVP), a privately held medical electronics company located in Littleton, Mass. The purchase price was not disclosed. AVP, which has fifty employees and annual sales over $10 million, will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of EMED.
AVP manufactures and markets high end visualization systems and networks for medical diagnostic imaging, including teleradiology and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS). The company also sells workstations for the Nondestructive Testing markets and Megascan high resolution monitors for display of images and text to various other users.
AVP's teleradiology and PACS product lines enable hospitals, clinics, and private practices to electronically digitize, store, retrieve, transmit and remotely display medical diagnostic images for review by radiologists and physicians. The data is initially generated by imaging sources such as x-ray, computed tomography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance or nuclear. The medical diagnostic images may be transmitted and displayed in various departments within or between hospitals, and to offices or homes of physicians and radiologists.
AVP was founded in 1985 by Tom and Catherine Goliash. Mr. Goliash will continue as president and general manager of AVP, reporting to Mr. Marino.
"One of our basic business strategies involves expansion of existing E-Systems technical capabilities into related markets outside our traditional business," said E. Gene Keiffer, chairman and chief executive officer of E-Systems. "In this specific case we believe that E-Systems expertise and experience in image processing, software, communications and systems integration will enhance the potential of AVP in the diagnostic imaging market and position us for additional opportunities in medical electronics."
E-Systems is a major worldwide developer and producer of electronics systems and products in the areas of intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance systems, command and control, electronic warfare, specialized aircraft maintenance and modification, guidance, navigation and control, communications, imagery and data systems.
