E-II HOLDINGS SOLICITATION TO BEGIN

 NEW YORK, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- E-II Holdings Inc., parent of Samsonite Corporation, Culligan International and McGregor Corporation, announced today that the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York has given final clearance for E-II to begin solicitation of acceptances of its reorganization plan.
 At a chambers conference held on Friday, Feb. 26, 1993, the court set May 10, 1993, as the hearing date for confirmation of the plan and April 26, 1993, as the deadline for objections and voting. E-II Holdings expects that its reorganization plan and disclosure statement will be distributed to holders of claims within approximately two weeks.
 Steven J. Green, chairman and chief executive officer of E-II Holdings, stated that "E-II's reorganization is proceeding smoothly because the numerous participants have pursued one common objective -- the successful reorganization of E-II Holdings. The court's action has allowed E-II to take a significant step forward in achieving that objective."
 None of E-II's subsidiaries are subject to E-II's bankruptcy proceedings.
 E-II Holdings Inc. is a holding company with subsidiaries engaged in the manufacture and sale of a variety of consumer products throughout the world. E-II's core businesses are as follows: Samsonite, luggage; Culligan, water treatment equipment; McGregor, including The 500 Fashion Group, men's tailored clothing; Anvil, T-shirts; Global Licensing, licensing trademarks; and Pet Specialties, pet food.
