Dyson serves up win for Fartown; Full-back kicks Huddersfield into gear after a cold start.

Byline: Pete Barrow

HUDDERSFIELD RLFC were busy beating the weather and their opponents as they produced a 12-5 victory over Hunslet at Fartown.

Having been forced indoors for much of the week to prepare for the game due to poor weather conditions, the Fartowners left it late to win a match that had looked under threat of being called off due to failing visibility as the fog descended.

In a very tight first half Huddersfield threatened with centres Russ Pepperell and Pat Devery going the closest to finding a breakthrough against their rivals from Leeds.

However, half-time arrived without either side having troubled the men on the scoreboard but they were finally called into action when Hunslet were penalised in their own '25' and full-back Frank Dyson duly landed the penalty.

It brought an almost instant response as Hunslet's international full-back Jack Evans levelled the scores with a penalty and the visitors took the lead as winger Les Williams went over in the corner, but Evans could not add the goal.

Again the scores were soon tied as Peter Henderson went over in the corner, but Devery failed to add the goal from the touchline.

However, Devery was soon to make amends as he pounced on a Hunslet fumbled and dribbled the ball over the line soccer style to touchdown and Dyson resumed the kicking duties to land the goal.

Fartown were now looking far more comfortable and as pressure told on the Hunslet defence the visitors conceded a penalty and Dyson's third goal ensured success for the home team.
