Dynamic Web site for children and adults living with cystic fibrosis launched. addresses the educational, social, and emotional needs of people living with cystic fibrosis (CF), spanning from young children to independent adults, as well as parents and caregivers. The site utilizes Web 2.0 technologies, which enable visitors to watch streamed videos, download "widgets," and engage in interactive games--all customized for the CF community.

Cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease, affects more than 30,000 people in the United States. People with CF are susceptible to sharing harmful, drug-resistant bacteria amongst each other ("cross infection") and, therefore, have limited opportunities to get together. As a result, the Internet has evolved into a valued resource for information and social networking for the CF community.

People with CF and their caregivers often spend hours each day at home administering therapeutic treatments. To boost morale, motivate productivity, and help use treatment time productively, provides a rich, online resource that can involves education, inspiration, and enjoyment.

Thanks to medical advances, there are now generations of CF patients who are living long, productive lives. In fact, while the median life span was once 18-years-old, it is now 37-years-old. Entering puberty and young adulthood are turbulent times for everyone, but even more so for people living with CF. enables people to hear directly from peers in similar situations and provides practical information to help navigate the joys and challenges of adult life.

The site features five distinct sections including:

Young children: Customized cartoon characters that keep youngsters engaged and interested are featured in games, online coloring, and other amusing activities that help explain how CF affects their bodies and how medicines work

Pre-teens: "Wacky Workshop" filled with interactive experiments and games appeal to interest in science and self-discovery

Teenagers: Streaming video with real-life teen testimonials sharing their hobbies and interests with one another to motivate and inspire each other, iTunes[R] access, and a chance to have their own personal video posted on the site

Young adults: Insights and practical information for life transitions such as college, careers, marriage, financial planning and retirement
