Dunlop-Enerka B.V. of Drachten, The Netherlands, started up a new production line for the manufacture of rubber compounds. The GK100 type mixing line is comprised of a mixer, roller and cooling rack, and will boost capacity by 60%. The highly automated line allows the company to prepare compounds in two stages, the first stage on the older mixing line and the second stage on the new machine.

Gates Rubber plans to invest $4 million in an automatic mill room at its Erembodegem, Belgium plant to improve quality and increase capacity at the plant. The plant also plans to introduce production cell manufacturing, which is defined as a cluster of workers and machinery forming a cell who work together to manufacture a family of products from start to finish. The project was begun last year and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year.
