Dukeminier leads Irish to third after first round.

CORVALLIS - Sheldon finished the first day of the OSAA Class 4A boys golf tournament in third place with a team score of 6-over-par 294 on Monday at Trysting Tree Golf Club.

Sam Dukeminier led the Irish with a 2-under 70 to stand in a tie for fifth place among individuals, and Jack Dukeminier shot a 71 to place him in a three-way tie for ninth place. The Irish also got a 76 from Justin Ahrens and a 77 from district champion Chris Polski.

The Irish are 12 strokes back of second-place Westview and 17 behind defending champion Tualatin, which shot an 11-under 277 to take the lead. Cole Peyton of Tualatin shot a 65 to hold a one-stroke individual lead over Westview's Joel Johnson.

North Eugene, making its first state appearance since 1996, shot a 336 to stand in 18th place. Ray LeBeau led the Highlanders with an 80, and Josh Sprague shot an 84.

Competing as individuals, South Eugene's Tyler Morse shot a 72, Thurston's Levi Bedortha shot a 73 and Willamette's Mark Ingram fired a 76.

Class 3A

REDMOND - Elmira's Nathaniel Johnson, competing as an individual, followed a 37 on the front nine with a 31 on the back nine for a 4-under 68 to tie for the lead after the first day of the OSAA Class 3A tournament at The Ridge Course at Eagle Crest.

Johnson is tied with Christian Green of Sisters, which shot a 291 to take a nine-stroke team lead over La Grande.

Siuslaw is third in the team race with a 305. The Vikings were led by Jesse Schutte, who shot a 70 to stand in a three-way tie for fourth among individuals, and Dale Raybould (75). North Bend's Kip Martin is in a three-way tie for seventh at 72.

Marist, which shot a 320 to tie for eighth place, was led by Colin Wessells' 77 and Nick Krieger's 78.

Class 2A/1A

OREGON CITY - Reedsport shot a 356 to stand in fifth place after the first day of the OSAA Class 2A/1A tournament at Stone Creek Golf Course.

Alan Wheeler led the Braves with a 78, which places him in a tie for fifth place among individuals.

Sean Free of Regis shot an even-par 72 to hold a one-stroke lead over Jeff Nigro of Santiam Christian. Regis shot a 318 to hold a 14-stroke team lead over Enterprise.

Girls

Class 4A

WOODBURN - Kendra Little shot an even-par 72 to stand in second place among individuals and lead district champion Sheldon (367) to eighth place after the first day of the OSAA Class 4A tournament at the OGA Members Course.

Little, who won the Midwestern League district title, shot a 35 on the back nine to finish three strokes behind McNary's Rebecca Kim (69) and three strokes ahead of Justine Hix of Grants Pass and Stephanie Johns of Ashland.

The Irish, who finished 16th at state last year, also got an 85 from Dana Anderson and a 98 from Jessica Reeves.

Thurston, making its first appearance at state, shot a 425 to stand in 18th place. Erica Omlid led the Colts with a 95.

Jesuit shot a 322 to hold a 23-stroke lead over second-place Canby.

Class 3A/2A/1A

REDMOND - Marist shot a 378 to stand in fifth place after the first day of competition at the OSAA Class 3A/2A/1A tournament at The Resort Course at Eagle Crest.

Rachel Warwick led the Spartans with an 84 and is tied for 10th place among individuals.

North Bend's Kellie Holmstedt and Reedsport's Emily Vaughn each shot 80 to tie for fourth place.

Astoria shot a 348 to hold a three-stroke lead over Sisters. Sutherlin's Jacqueline Olson shot a 79 to stand in third, four shots back of leader Agatha Brezezinski of Wilsonville.
