Ducks sweep meet.

OREGON CITY - Oregon runners took the top 12 places to easily win the men's team title at the Mike Hodges Invitational college cross country meet on Saturday at Clackamas Community College.

The Ducks scored a perfect 15 points to win the team title. Washington was second with 67 points, and Lane was fourth with 93 points.

The Oregon women placed six runners in the top 10 to win the team title with 24 points. Willamette was second with 50 points.

Galen Rupp covered the four-mile course in 18 minutes, 40.66 seconds to win the individual title.

Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott was second in 18:58.14, narrowly edging UO teammate Carlos Trujillo (18:58.79). Kenny Klotz and Diego Mercado finished fourth and fifth for Oregon.

Oregon's A.J. Acosta, running unattached, was sixth in 19:17.

Lane was led by Joe Churchill, who finished 14th in 19:46.99. Dustin Moore finished 25th in 20:05.35.

In the women's race, Dana Buchanan led the Ducks with a second-place finish, covering the 5,000-meter course in 16:47.56. Willamette's Sarah Zerzan won in 16:25.

Zoe Nelson was third for Oregon in 16:49.69, and teammates Sarah Pearson (17:07.49) and Amanda Stopa (17:11.50) were sixth and seventh.

Toma Starodubtseva, who finished 29th in 18:50, led Lane, which finished seventh with 171 points.

Beavers win title

at Cal Poly meet

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Oregon State placed five runners in the top 15 to win the women's team title at the Cal Poly Invitational on Saturday.

Kaitlin Poggi finished fourth on the 5,000-meter course in 18:10 to lead the Beavers, who scored 43 points.

Neoma Palmer (sixth place, 18:19) and Krista Stangel (eighth, 18:20) also finished in the top 10 for the Beavers.

The Beavers also sent several runners to the Cascade College Invitational in Portland. Former Coquille High standout Holli Dieu won the individual race for the Beavers in 18:08.

Haruguchi leads

OSU swimmers to split

LOS ANGELES - Saori Haruguchi won two events to lead Oregon State, which defeated Cal State Northridge and lost to USC in a three-way women's college swimming meet Saturday.

Hanuguchi won the 100-yard backstroke in 56.42 seconds and the 400 individual medley in 4:23.16 for the Beavers, who beat Northridge, 86-9, but lost to USC, 63-32.

Kayla Rawlings won the 100 butterfly in 56.56 for the Beavers, and South Eugene product Erika Wirth was on the OSU 400 freestyle relay that won in 3:31.73.

Generals rally to beat Tri-City, 5-2

Larry Dankenbring scored twice in the first period to lead the Eugene Generals to a 5-2 victory over the Tri-City Titans in a Northern Pacific Hockey League game Saturday at Lane County Ice.

Dankenbring scored the Generals' first goal 12:20 into the first period, then scored the go-ahead goal at 18:35 of the first.

Eugene's Nick Maynes had 46 saves.

Beacons fall to

George Fox in five games

NEWBERG - Karina Philliber had 22 kills and 22 digs to lead George Fox to a 30-24, 26-30, 30-32, 30-24, 15-10 victory over Northwest Christian College in a college volleyball match on Saturday.

Ashley Blanchfill had 27 kills to lead the Beacons.
